Question: What Is The Difference Between The AANR & The Naturist Society?
Answer: The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) promotes a nude/nudist lifestyle. Since this isn’t really practical in the society as a whole, a separate environment must be created. That is where “landed” nudist resorts/clubs come into play. Nudist clubs provide a safe and protected environment in which their users can enjoy a sans clothes lifestyle. Depending on how many nudist resorts you have visited, your experiences will vary, but the majority require nudity in most, if not all, areas. There are a few exceptions, of course, but these are usually idiosyncrasies of individual clubs.
The Naturist Society (TNS), on the other hand, promotes the idea of a clothing-optional lifestyle, as a way of life that doesn’t require that you should be nude whenever possible, but rather that you should be dressed, lightly dressed, or undressed in whatever amount of clothing might be appropriate for the time and place and your personal comfort. This does not mean that naturists should be allowed to intermingle with the public on golf courses, tennis courts, bike trails, or public beaches. Instead, TNS believes that portions/sections of public lands and the great outdoors (especially beaches) should be set aside for clothing-optional recreation.
Question: How do I join your club?
Answer: A good way to start is to attend one of our club activities and meet some of our members. For information click on the “Contact Us” button on this Web site. Note: SCN requires its members to also be members of either AANR or TNS.
Question: Do you own property we can visit?
Answer: The Suncoast Naturists is a Non-Landed Social Club and therefore we have no facilities.
Question: Can I go nude at Caspersen Beach?
Answer: There is no Florida statute or Sarasota County ordinance prohibiting “simple nudity”, i.e., nudity without lewd and lascivious behavior. However, nudism on local beaches (including Caspersen) will sometimes elicit complaints from the public, which the police must then investigate. Individuals approached by the police for nudity on the beach may simply be asked to “cover up”, but may run the risk of arrest, depending on the interpretation of the investigating officer.
Question: Do you allow singles and fanilies with children join your club?
Answer: SCN is open to singles and families (with or without children) who are interested in nudism/naturism and would like to join a social club that supports that lifestyle.
Question: What is Clothing-Optional?
Answer: “Clothing-optional” means exactly what it says, i.e., at SCN private activities, clothing is acceptable, but not required. Conversely, nudity, while always acceptable, is also never required.
Question: Will I encounter sexual activity?
Answer: No overt sexual activity is allowed at SCN events. Public sexual activity is prohibited and would undermine the club’s stated purpose and image. Violations of this rule should be reported to club officers.
Question: Are Cameras allowed?
Answer: No photographs should be taken without first obtaining the explicit permission of those being photographed.
Question: Must I always carry my own towel?
Answer: Yes, to protect the health and cleanliness of yourself and others, it is always best to bring your own towel to sit on and to dry off with.
Question: What is B.Y.O.B.?
Answer: BYOB means “Bring Your Own Bottle”, i.e., bring your own favorite beverage to drink, generally because the host is not providing beverages.
Question: What is B.Y.O.T.?
Answer: This means "Bring Your Own Towels". Proper etiquette would be for you to ALWAYS sit on your own towel and or have your own towels to dry off.
Question: Is it likely my wife would be improperly approached?
Answer: SCN works diligently to achieve a non-threatening environment at all its activities. Anyone violating club rules with improprieties would be asked to leave and would likely be banned from the club.
