ABOUT US

The Suncoast Naturists (SCN) organization was founded in 2000 to serve the Sarasota/Venice geographic areas and has continued to grow since that date.

The organization was originally formed with three distinct purposes in mind:

1.  To provide, a clothing-optional venue in which local nudists and naturists can socialize with like-minded people.

2.  To provide advice and counsel to local elected and appointed officials to help them deal with simple nudity issues as they arise on private and public lands.

3.  To campaign for legally designated areas within local county owned spaces for clothing-optional recreation.  (Note: After seven years of unsuccessful "campaigning", this third purpose has been reduced in scope).

The Suncoast Naturists has in the past been an active member of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce and continues to participate occasionally in the functions of that organization. SCN is also an affiliated member of both The Naturist Society (TNS) and the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR).

The Suncoast Naturist sponsors a diverse array of social activities for it's members, including pool parties at member’s homes, boating trips to local barrier islands, weekend trips to nudist resorts, croquet parties, and monthly dinners held at area wide restaurants.

SCN membership is open to any person regardless of age, religion, gender, sexual preference, or marital status. SCN is a family- friendly social group, made up mostly of members ranging between 40 and 75 years of age who have settled in Southwest Florida in the "Suncoast" area between Tampa and Ft. Myers. While our social and community service activities are open to all members,  we do however ask members who wish to bring under-aged children to Social Activities at member's homes to advise the Host Member of the fact.  These members will be responsible for the supervision of these under-aged children.  In today's world it is necessary to have guidelines for the nudist lifestyle.  Not only is it very easy to destroy all the hard work we have put into social acceptance, but people who are new to the Nudist/Naturists lifestyle may not realize how to properly deal with social circumstances, so we have provided for you information on proper Etiquette to further help you understand.  Also we have a page you may want to visit dealing with Nudist Laws, although it is not current and not been update it will give you some interesting reading, we will try and update it when possible, also remembering that you are solely responsible for your actions.

Guests are welcome to attend any social activities and are encouraged to join in the fun prior to submitting an application to join SCN. At the various social activities prospective members will see that SCN is not interested in and does not promote overt sexual activity. Our goal is to provide clothing-optional social opportunities where no one feels threatened by sexual overtones. While we do not require total nudity at our clothing-optional social events, we do require single guests and at least one member of a visiting couple to disrobe when attending such events. Guests are encouraged to join and meet other SCN members at more than one social activity prior to making application to join and this can be done at either clothing-optional social events or by attending one of the monthly dinners at local restaurants. Prospective members are also encouraged to participate in quarterly SCN “beach clean-up” activities. For this purpose, SCN has formally adopted Caspersen Beach Park, in Venice, where it aids the Sarasota County Parks & Recreation department by collecting trash quarterly on a volunteer basis.

Membership in Suncoast Naturists has two principal requirements:

1.  Each SCN member must also have an active membership with either The Naturist Society (TNS) or The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR).

2.  Each member abides by the rules of etiquette listed on the bottom of the SCN membership application form. Members are encouraged to obtain their national TNS or AANR memberships through the SCN as this result in some income for the SCN, but that is not a requirement.

Members of Suncoast Naturists are encouraged to actively participate in the organization’s management and administration, e.g., calendar and event planning, interaction with beach clean up officials, newsletter contributions, serving as officers etc.  Many SCN members have had interesting professional and business careers and lead diverse social and recreational lives, all of which helps make the relatively young SCN a vibrant, healthy and growing organization.
